Seven Cougars Earn League Honors from Heart of America
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team had seven members earn league honors from the Heart of America Conference on Thursday, April 27.
Luke Modesto was named as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Heart and made first team honors for MVNU. The sophomore defender from Point Loma, California was a force defensively with 29 caused turnovers and 55 groundballs. Modesto also displayed a skilled offensive arsenal, scoring six goals and dishing out four assists in 2023.
Sophomore, Tyler Dickerson made first team as an attacker for MVNU. The Granville, Ohio product was third in the conference with 38 goals and was fifth with 54 total points.
Brett Townsend joined Modesto and Dickerson on first team. Townsend finished second in the heart with 56 assists and was third with 77 total points. The senior from North Canton, Ohio was second in the entire NAIA in assists.
Sophomore, Alec Terbovich earned second team honors as a midfielder. Terbovich, who hails from Pickerington, Ohio, finished with 21 goals and eight assists for MVNU in 2023.
Micah Rex made second team in the Heart as well. The senior from Harrod, Ohio gave MVNU great by as a short stick defensive midfielder. Rex caused 18 turnovers and had 54 groundballs. Rex also added a goal and three assists.
Josh Jerome was another big part of MVNU's defense and landed on the second team with Terbovich and Rex. The senior from Fayetteville, North Carolina wrecked havoc with 24 caused turnovers. Jerome had 34 groundballs and chipped in with two goals and two assists on offense.
The last Cougar to earn League honors from the Heart of America was Joshua Hageman from Sunbury, Ohio. The senior goal keeper ranked first in the conference with a 57.6 save percentage and an 8.61 goals-against average.
