Last Second Goal Pushes Cougars Past Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (3-4) defeated Earlham College (1-4) by a final score of 9-8 after a last second goal by the Cougars.

The Cougars found themselves down two goals going into the final quarter, with no choice but to shut down Earlham and score multiple times to win the game. MVNU put a four spot on the board in the fourth quarter and held Earlham to only one goal to pull off the comeback. The Cougars called the last second play, and it started with Ian Ranck behind the goal. Ranck passed it to Jason Laasmar who quickly shot and scored to beat the buzzer for the Cougars' win.

Inside the Box Score

Laasmar had a solid day offensively scoring three times on six shots.

Brett Townsend contributed with two goals of his own and had an assist to push the Cougars.

Matt Quire, Bailey McVay, Johnny Grumney, and Grant Hauger each added a goal for the Cougars. Hauger also had a huge night with assists, finishing the night with three. Quire and Ranck finished with two assists as well.

Joshua Hageman did what he had to do in goal to get the win as he finished the game with six saves for the Cougars.

What's Next

The Cougars will now head to Concordia University (Mich.) on Wednesday, March 24 for a 2:00pm matchup with the Cardinals.
