Cougars Compete in Crossroads League Tournament 1
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — Colonial City Lanes had the privilege of hosting the inaugural Crossroads League bowling tournament on Saturday, October 9. Six schools, including MVNU were in attendance. Each school brought at minimum a varsity men's and a varsity women's team. The format on the day was four ten-pin games followed by sixteen baker games.
Leadoff bowler, Luke Jahn carried the team's high average on the day with a 194. Jahn rolled games of 189, 213, 206, and 168. Jahns 776 finish had him placing 11th overall on the day. Freshman, James Gerken started off strong with a 191 and 195, but was unable to keep his pace and finished out with a 169 and 157- totaling 712 (178 average). Gerken finished the tournament 16th overall. Anchor Dana Hicks struggled initially with a 145, but came back solid in games two and three with 192 and 198. Hicks' game four was another hiccup on his day with a 157. Hicks still averaged 173 for the day earning him an 18th place overall finish. Freshman, Blake Crow has been having solid high scoring practices, but wasn't able to connect as well in the tournament, he rolled a total of 584 and finished 22nd. Also contributing to the men's individuals was Riley Wike rolling a 424 and placing 30th overall.
Heading into their baker games, the men were only averaging a 159.4; and they started out much stronger. In the first set, the men rolled a 201, 202, 184 and 201. The next couple of sets is where consistency became their struggle. From high baker scores of 202 to the low of 112, the men had a difficult time in connecting their spares. At the conclusion, however, they still averaged a baker set of 165.13.
The men finished the tournament in 5th place with a 5830. Indiana Wesleyan was behind in 6th with 5393 and ahead of them in 4th was Bethel with 6289.

MVNU has a weekend break from competing but are set to return to the lanes on Saturday, October 23rd at HP Lanes in Columbus, Ohio.
