Hot Shooting from IWU Takes Down MVNU at Luckey Arena

MARION, Ind. —  The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (13-13, 5-11 CL) traveled for a Crossroads League showdown against the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (18-8, 8-8 CL) on Saturday, February 15, at Luckey Arena and would fall 76-98 after forty minutes.

MVNU stayed within striking distance early against the Wildcats, but IWU pulled ahead to lead 59-42 at halftime. The Wildcats dominated from beyond the arc, sinking a program-record 23 three-pointers, which proved too much for the Cougars to overcome on the day.

MVNU shot 45.0% from the field, making 27 of 60 attempts, while hitting 33.3% from beyond the arc, sinking 8 of 24 three-pointers.

IWU recorded a 56.1% shooting rate, sinking 37 of 66 field goal attempts, while also knocking down 23 of 40 from three-point range at a smoldering 57.5% clip.

MVNU won the inside-the-paint battle with a 38-28 scoring edge over IWU and capitalized on 12 forced turnovers to generate 18 points.

MVNU had 15 assists to just 11 turnovers in the game.

Coach Ronai's Thoughts

"Wesleyan obviously shot it at an extremely high rate today. You have to give them credit as they played well. Our guys battled all night. It was a much closer game than 22 points as they hit a flurry of shots in the final two minutes of play. This group will continue to fight back and get better. Excited to get back to work with them on Monday."
