Overwatch Nationals Run Continues
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Overwatch team began its NECC Nationals run on Friday, April 24, as the No. 3 seed facing off against No. 14 Milwaukee School of Engineering.
In map one MVNU got to play its standard composition. In round one, MVNU won with only losing one team fight. Because MVNU won so quickly, it was unable to get value out of its ultimate rotation. Round two, MVNU was able to win 100% to 0%, closing out the game in a dominant fashion. Everyone played exceptionally well in this game, but there was a huge performance from their tank player BB "Dipper3" Brubaker.
Map two was a little bit closer as MSOE was able to pick their map choice of, Aatlis and banned one of the key components to MVNU's composition: Emre. Although it started out shaky, losing the first two subpoints, MVNU was able to make the reverse sweep comeback on the back of its superior ultimate rotations and positioning. Map three was again the other team's choice map, and they chose Shambali Monastery which is a payload game mode. Their composition was well suited for this map and because of this they were able to fully cap the map with nine seconds on the clock. MVNU was able to recover and was able to fully cap the map with over two minutes on the clock.
In the last fight of round three, team captain Mason "Vendetta" Rinehart, made a game-winning call to take the team fight early to prevent MSOE from getting their first ultimate rotation. Due to this, MVNU was able to leverage its longer time bank and close out the series in a 3-0 sweep.
