Valorant advances to Quarterfinals

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Valorant team began their NECC Nationals run on Monday, April 20, as the #4 seed facing off against #13 St. Lawrence University. ​

 

In Map 1 (Breeze), MVNU started off slowly, down 0-3. However, after some great team plays from everyone, MVNU would go on a 5-1 run, ultimately becoming a 6-6 half. Building on this momentum MVNU would find themselves up 12-9 needing one more round to take the map, but St. Lawrence would go on a run winning the last 3 rounds in the half to force Overtime. In overtime, it would be a very back-and-forth game but after Ethan "egunner" Byrom picks off 2 it would seal the deal 16-14 MVNU.

Moving into Map 2 (Haven), the story shifted as MVNU began with the momentum starting the game off with a 4-1 lead. St. Lawrence would soon find their ground, ending the 1st half at 6-6. In the 2nd half MVNU again found some momentum winning the first 5 rounds of the half making it an 11-6 game and going on map and series point at 12-7. However, St. Lawrence would not make an easy game with it being 12-11 going to the last round of regulation. MVNU would end up winning the last round despite being in a 4v5 situation and taking the map 13-11 as well as the series. ​
