Competitive Cheer Ready for the 2025 Season

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University competitive cheerleading team is set to begin its 2025 season on Saturday, January 18 at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The team, led by Melissa Nowicki, is looking forward to building on last season. Despite relying heavily on freshmen during the 2024 campaign, MVNU showed considerable growth and optimism as the season progressed.

"I'm really excited to see what this season holds and the progress we make as a team," said Nowicki. "Seniors Samantha Wulff, Abby Schmetzer, Taylor Tyler bring great experience, but more importantly their enthusiasm and positive leadership are unmatched! Returners Skyler Salsberry, Kierstyn Keeper, Cadence Brooks, Abigail Lengacher, Kaitlin Kimball, and Naomi Kinne have made improvements in stunting and tumbling skills in the offseason that have made us more consistent and confident as a team."

"We have a strong group of first-year cheerleaders, Nick Teglovic, Dominik Kimball, and Hannah Kanagy, who are already an asset to all our stunting this year," continued Nowicki. "We are also thrilled to be hosting a home competition on February 1 and the Crossroads League Championship at the end of the season in March. We hope you come out and see us compete!"
