Baseball Downed by IWU to Start Crossroads League Tournament

MARION, Ind. – The No. 3 Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (33-18) played its first game of the Crossroads League Tournament against No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan University (27-18) on Thursday, May 1.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings of play. IWU struck first in the third, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead, and three more in the fourth to go up 5-0.

MVNU managed to stay within striking distance until the seventh inning. IWU used a five-run top half of the seventh to take a commanding 10-0 lead. The Cougars were unable to cut into the deficit and fell by a final score of 10-0 in the end. On the day, MVNU had just four hits compared to IWU's 12. Grant Wheeler, Alejandro Delgado, Zackary Hoop, and Brennen Nichols each had a hit for MVNU.

 

What's Next:

MVNU will look to fend off elimination on Friday, May 2, against top-seeded Taylor University. First pitch in Marion, Indiana, is set for 2:30 p.m.
