Cougars Fall in Game One to Wildcats, Game Two Suspended
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (24-15, 12-13 CL) hosted the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (23-10, 18-7 CL) for a doubleheader on Friday, April 11 at the Cougar Baseball Field.
Game 1 Summary:
IWU opened the scoring in the fourth with a two-run homer to left field, followed by a run scoring on a passed ball to make it 3-0. In the fifth, a single to shortstop brought in another run. A run scored on a throw in the sixth extended IWU's lead to 5-0. An unearned run crossed the plate in the eighth on a single to right field, and a groundout in the ninth brought in the team's seventh run. MVNU responded late in the ninth as Carter LaPata scored from third on a passed ball. MVNU then pushed across a run on an RBI single to left from Grant Moore that scored Zackary Hoop, but the comeback effort came up short as the Cougars fell 7-2.
Game 2 Summary:
Game two, currently in the top of the 13th inning, will resume at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Cougar Baseball Field. The game was suspended due to the lack of light.
