MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (10-16, 7-13 CL) lost both games of its doubleheader with (RV) Indiana Wesleyan University (22-11-1, 17-3 CL) on Wednesday, April 5 at Cougar Field.
It was all Indiana Wesleyan in game one as the Wildcats cruised to a 6-0 victory. The visitors scored two runs in the third and four runs in the fourth and amassed 12 total hits throughout the game. The Cougars were held to just four total hits, two of which were from Holden Blankenship. Johnny Nixon got the loss on the mound for MVNU, as the freshman gave up six runs on 10 hits and three walks. He struck out six in the outing.
In game two, the Cougars fell behind 5-1 after the fourth but solo homeruns from Hogan Heck and Rider Minnick cut the lead to two. However, it was not enough for a comeback and the Wildcats took the second game with a 5-3 final. Logan Fox got the loss on the mound for the Cougars. Offensively, Heck, Minnick, and Joe Poremsky each had two hits.
What's Next
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow, April 6 and will look to bounce back as they host Indiana Wesleyan for another doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00pm.
