MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (10-12, 7-9 CL) split its doubleheader with Grace College (12-13, 4-10 CL) on Monday afternoon, March 27 at Cougar Field.
In game one, the Cougars beat the Lancers 10-4. Joe Poremsky went 3-for-3 with a homerun and Hunter Billman added a two-run homer. MVNU scored four runs in the second and three runs in both the sixth and seventh. Johnny Nixon got the win on the mound for the Cougars. The freshman righthander went 7.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out five.
Grace jumped out to an early start in the second game, which led to their 4-2 win. Offensively, the Cougars had six hits and were led by Casey Kalman and Rider Minnick, who each had two hits and an RBI. Logan Fox got the hard-luck loss on the hill for MVNU as he went 7.0 innings, allowing four runs (just one earned) on four hits. Fox struck out four and walked two.
What's Next
The Cougars are back in action on Friday, March 31 as they travel to Indianapolis, Indiana for a doubleheader with Marian University. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.
